Adult Psychotherapy
You may have struggled for a while with some serious issue that affects the level
of satisfaction you get from your life. By now, you may have run out of ideas on
how to address the problem and be considering contacting a therapist. Or maybe
someone has suggested that you seek help. This is similar to seeking the help of
a doctor when you feel bad enough to want or need help and nothing you've
tried yourself has worked.
The doctor will give you something to lessen the pain or the infection so your
body's own systems can take over. Likewise, a therapist, such as me, will help
you process and resolve the effects of negative life experiences to the point
where you yourself can take it from there. This usually includes becoming more
aware of your own behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and body sensations,
acknowledging to yourself those things of which you've become aware, and using
that awareness and acknowledgement as a starting point for healthy change.
Depending on what you need and want, psychotherapy with me can take the
form of a one-time consultation, a brief series of sessions focused on helping you
adjust to something, or a longer-term commitment to deep, personal change. I
can provide outpatient maintenance of an ongoing mental illness. For those not
suffering from a diagnosed mental illness, I can help find solutions to short-term
crises, offer support during longer-term challenges, or provide guidance through
a journey of self-discovery.
